“It’s
fine if they’re gay; I’m normal.”
“It’s fine if they’re gay; I’m normal” asks us
to examine our beliefs about sexuality—heterosexuality, homosexuality,
and bisexuality. It asks us to look at the spheres in which we come into contact
with people of diverse sexualities, look at the reasons for which we may or may
not be aware of their orientations, and converse about how that affects our perceptions
about normalcy. Utilizing recent films such as, Tough Guise Violence, Media & the
Crisis in Masculinity, Harry Potter, and Billy Elliot, participants will further
investigate what proactive choices students can make to act as allies to one
another in making healthy and self-affirming choices.
